Developers of one of the most popular multiplayer PC shooters on the Internet, America’s Army. The Army released this in 2002 as a recruitment tool to tap into the potential of their target demographic, gaming aficianados. Following the massive success of AA (with close to 3 and a half million registered users), the US Army has opened up is own game development studio:


America's Army Government Applications office was quietly opened in January in Cary, North Carolina, with a team of 15 video-game creators, simulation specialists and ex-Army personnel. Many of the studio's employees come from local video-game companies like Interactive Magic, Timeline, Vertis, SouthPeak Interactive, Vicious Cycle Software and Red Storm Entertainment.


Headed by ex-Red Storm and former Apache pilot, Jerry Heneghan, the AAGA is also developing training simulations for other government agencies like the Navy and secret service, as well as working on the newest edition of America's Army, which is due next March and entitled Overmatch.
